One of the most feel good photos of the past month or two was a photo of “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” actors Harrison Ford and Ke Huy Quan reuniting backstage at D23 last month.
The reunion came nearly forty years after they respectively played Indiana Jones and Short Round in the second film. Both actors happened to be at Anaheim Convention Center in Orange County to promote their works – Ford to tout a fifth “Indiana Jones” whilst Quan was there to promote the second season of “Loki”.
This week, speaking with NY Times’ Kyle Buchanan, “Everything Everywhere All At Once” star Quan revealed he was made aware Ford was going to be at D23. When he found out Ford was just outside the green room, he went over to say hello and then explained what happened next:
“As I walk close, my heart is pounding. I’m thinking, ‘Is he gonna recognize me? The last time he saw me, I was a little kid.’ And as I get closer, he turns and points his finger at me, and he has that classic, famous, grumpy Harrison Ford look. I go, ‘Oh my gosh, he probably thinks I’m a fan and he’s gonna tell me to not come near him.’ But he looks and points at me and says, ‘Are you Short Round?’ Immediately, I was transported back to 1984, when I was a little kid, and I said, ‘Yes, Indy.’ And he said, ‘Come here, and gave me a big hug.'”
A photo was then snapped, warming the icy, brutal heart of social media platforms for a few hours. Quan had mostly left acting until recently and thus genuinely hadn’t seen Ford for many years.
Ford was recently confirmed to be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the role of Thunderbolt Ross for both “Captain America: New World Order” and “Thunderbolts”.
The next “Indiana Jones” is set to hit cinemas on June 30th 2023.
