Plex, the company best known for its media library software that people use to keep their legally (and not so legally) downloaded content organised, is getting into the free streaming business.
The company has just launched its ad-supported VOD service offering “thousands of free movies, TV shows, extreme sports films, music documentaries, and Bollywood musicals”. The service offers no paid subscriptions, but does require ads to be shown.
This new AVOD service is available in more than 200 countries to anyone with a free Plex account and includes content from MGM, Lionsgate and Warner.
Plex users will find a new Free to Watch category that is unlocked under Movies & TV on the Plex sidebar item – so you can position it alongside your existing collections. Some movies and TV shows will be geo-restricted, but the “vast majority” of content is global.
