“Pikachu” Becomes Top Grossing Game-To-Film

New Detective Pikachu Trailer Tomorrow

The first live-action “Pokemon” movie, “Detective Pikachu,” has become the highest grossing game-to-film adaptation of all time – at least domestically.

The title has pulled in $139.1 million at the U.S. box-office, topping 2001’s “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” to take the honor. 2016’s “The Angry Birds Movie” ($107.5M), 2018’s “Rampage” ($101M) and 2010’s “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” ($90.8M) were the highest grossers before this point.

Worldwide the film has pulled in $412 million around the entire globe thus far, which still falls behind “Rampage” which nabbed a pretty staggering $428 million last year.
