Netflix has revealed that around 300 programs, spanning films and television, in their library have used generative AI across their production process so far this year.
Announced in a shareholders’ letter during their second-quarter earnings report on Thursday, they say the technology’s usage “covers every level” of a program’s production process including conception, pre-vis, production and release.
Specific programs cited include Indian sports thriller “Glory,” Brazilian soccer miniseries “Brasil 70: A Saga do Tri,” and docuseries “The American Experiment” with the latter boasting around 17 minutes of AI-enhanced footage.
They say: “We are increasingly leveraging these tools to deliver higher-quality output more quickly and at a lower cost than traditional methods. In some cases, productions would have had to leave out key shots and sequences in the absence of GenAI technology.”
The streaming giant has spoken before about using AI to help users find new titles, fueling its advertising business and build an AI animation studio.
Netflix’s second-quarter revenue reached $12.56 billion, up 13.4% year over year, with a net income of $3.4 billion.
