“Moon Knight” Creator Explains His Exit

Marvel

Jeremy Slater served as head writer on Marvel Studios’ “Moon Knight” series and then, rather unexpectedly, left the series partway through production.

The show received positive reviews upon release, with particular praise for the performances and the darker tone compared to previous MCU series.

In a recent interview while out promoting the “Mortal Kombat II” film, Slater spoke with THR about his assembling of the “Moon Knight” writers’ room and how he fell out of the project. He says:

“I certainly don’t want to say anything bad or negative about Marvel or my time there. They took a chance on me, and they let me assemble a really great writers’ room. I was really, really proud of the work that we did.

The end result was I left the project over creative disagreements with the director. The two of us simply had very different visions on what the show should be about. Ultimately, he won that creative battle, so I stepped away. He then brought in his own team of writers to create a show that was his vision and the story that he wanted to tell.”

Mohamed Diab, Justin Benson, and Aaron Moorhead all helmed episodes of the series, with Slater likely referring to Diab in his remarks. Despite creative differences, Slater still holds sole credit as creator and head writer.

The series aired in 2022 with still no word on a potential follow-up.
