Leto’s Joker Won’t Be In “Birds of Prey”

Scribe Talks Joker Harley Quinn Tone

Margot Robbie has confirmed that Jared Leto will not be reprising his role of The Joker for the upcoming “Birds of Prey” film, not even in a cameo capacity.

Speaking with Variety, Robbie made the reveal which is a tiny bit of a surprise as Quinn’s breakup with the character is a key catalyst that kicks off this story.

Robbie confirms she did see “Joker,” complimented Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘phenomenal job’ in the role, and says that film feels much more grounded compared to ‘Birds’ which is “heightened”.

The film’s writer Christina Hodson says Robbie’s goal was to show a film with badass women hanging out and having fun: “She really wanted to see Harley with girlfriends, Harley in a girl gang. Harley is such a naturally sociable character. And I think there was just a general longing to see girls together on screen — women being friends.”

Finally, Robbie adds that despite what you may think it “took a lot of convincing” for Warner Brothers to green light the film with an R-rating. “Birds of Prey” arrives February 7th.
