Lego Sequel Tracking For 55m Opening

Warner’s animated sequel “The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part” is reportedly heading for an opening weekend of as much as $55 million at the North American box office.

Early tracking for the February 8th release has been revealed with that number coming in under the surprisingly strong $69 million launch weekend of the first film which ultimately went on to earn a domestic total of $257.7 million.

Mike Mitchell directs the movie, while Phil Lord and Christopher Miller produce and co-wrote the film with “BoJack Horseman” creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg.

It will open opposite the comedy “What Men Want” which is targeting a $25 million launch, the Liam Neeson-led “Cold Pursuit” which should grab around $10 million, and the horror tale “The Prodigy” with $6 million.
