A few weeks back, confusion arose over whether “Fast Forever” had begun filming or not due to Vin Diesel posting a video from what appeared to be a garage-style set with Dominic Torreto’s 1970 Dodge Charger R/T visible.
He didn’t indicate what he was working on, but was dressed as his Toretto character and said simply he was “on set, people are grinding, incredible crews are working”. It was subsequently revealed that filming was for a promo for the World Cup.
Some saw it as a potential maneuver tied to the film, which is due for a March 2028 release and is supposed to start production later this year. That theory has now gained more weight following comments from “Reacher” star Alan Ritchson on the Happy Sad Confused podcast this week.
Ritchson, who appeared in “Fast X,” tells the outlet that Universal and Diesel are currently “solving some big problems” related to the final film – a lot of tied to budget:
“I know a lot, we have conversations all the time, I’m a big part of those conversations. There’s just a lot of obstacles. It’s expensive to make – it’s too expensive; it doesn’t make a ton of sense. There’s a more efficient way to shoot those shows.
And so there has to be a way to show restraint, while also honoring the fact that this world has expanded to something humongous. We are at the crossroads of something very hard to figure out, and everybody’s figuring it out. There’s going to be another one, and I think it’s going to be great. It’s just a matter of solving some big problems.”
No cast for the next entry has been announced as yet. Louis Leterrier is expected to return as director, though not confirmed as yet, while at last report Michael Lesslie was writing the script.
It has been made fairly clear in past reports that the film is going to have to have a smaller budget than the $379 million that “Fast X” ended up costing.
