Disney Dominates 2018’s U.S. Box-Office

Disney Dominates 2018s Us Box Office

Good reviews and a more diverse range of films have helped push domestic box office revenue past 2016’s record level – and that’s with a full week of the year left to go.

Combined ticket sales for the year have hit $11.383 billion and are expected to surpass the 2016 total of $11.392 billion by tomorrow. In fact, estimates now are that 2018 domestic revenue could hit $11.8 billion by the end of New Year’s Eve.

Attendance is also up year-over-year by around 5-7%. Disney has dominated the line-up with their handful of films responsible for 27% of the market share and over $3 billion domestically, its best number yet and that’s despite duds like “Nutcracker” and disappointments like “Solo”.

Disney’s took the top three spots at the domestic box-office for the year to date thanks to “Black Panther,” “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Incredibles 2”. It is also more than $1 billion ahead of the next nearest studio, Universal, in North America. Globally Disney’s ticket sales have already crossed $7 billion for the year.
