Media visionary Ted Turner, the founder of CNN and creator of cable channels like TNT, Cartoon Network and Turner Classic Movies, has died at the age of 87.

Turner reportedly died peacefully, surrounded by his family, following a battle with Lewy body dementia in recent years.

Turner spent several years as the largest shareholder of Time Warner and was fired as vice chairman shortly after the conglomerate’s ill-fated merger with AOL.

He was also married to two-time Oscar-winning actress Jane Fonda for a decade, had two other wives, at one time four girlfriends simultaneously, and was a former owner of baseball’s Atlanta Braves.

He also won the America’s Cup in 1977, amassed 46 honorary degrees, was a TIME Man of the Year, was America’s second biggest single citizen landowner, became a passionate environmentalist, and had a personal fortune that reached $11 billion at one time.

Turner is survived by his five children, 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
