Chalamet, Gomez To Lead Animated Alien Film

Universal Pictures

Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez will team for a new alien-themed animated feature titled “Not Alone” which has been set up at “Minions” and “Super Mario” film franchise studio Illumination.

Chalamet, who makes his animation debut on the project, will voice an introverted rocket mechanic named Joe who lives a quiet life alone. Gomez will play Fran, a brilliant astro-botanist developing the world’s first plant-fueled rocket.

The pair are brought together to prepare for the inaugural launch of this rocket, there are immediate sparks, but neither is particularly adept at romance.

Life becomes more complicated when three aliens – tiny, unruly and adorable – take refuge in Joe’s home. The trio are Dunk, Welly and Shirm and are on the interplanetary run from a zealous-yet-inept officer of the law named Zandro.

The aliens determine that Fran’s rocket could provide their means of getting back home to safety. Comedians Rob Brydon (“The Trip”), Diane Morgan (“Cunk On”) and Jamie Demetriou (“The Roses”) will voice the three aliens while “Ted Lasso” alum Brett Goldstein will play Officer Zandro.

The great Allison Janney and recent “Spider-Noir” breakout Lamorne Morris also star. Eric Guillon, Claire Dodgson and Jonathan Del Val co-direct the project

“Not Alone” will open in cinemas on April 16th 2027 and was announced at the Annecy Animation Festival. An early production one-sheet for the film was also released and can be seen below.
