“Avatar” actor Sam Worthington is set to star in Australian thriller “Gold” alongside Anthony Hayes who both directs and co-wrote the script. John Schwarz and Michael Schwarz will produce.

The story centers on two men travelling through the remote desert who stumble across the biggest gold nugget ever found. They hatch a plan to protect and excavate the find, with one leaving to secure equipment and the other staying behind to protect the discovery. [Source: Inside Film]

Kathy Bates, Jake McLaughlin and Lil Rel Howery have joined the cast of actress Franka Potente’s directorial debut, the California-set redemption drama “Home”.

McLaughlin plays a man who comes home after more than 20 years in prison and finds out that, even after two decades, his small American hometown has not forgotten the atrocity he committed. Despite the confrontation and hostility from the locals, Marvin will do what it takes to reclaim his place in society. [Source: Variety]

Susan Sarandon has signed on to star in John Krokidas’ “Tunnels” which follows the grandmother of kid whom she raised and who becomes a school shooter. At her job in the local supermarket, she is paired to work with the teenage brother of one of her grandson’s victims and an unlikely and inspiring friendship develops. The Father
Rufus Sewell, Imogen Poots, Mark Gatiss and Olivia Williams have joined Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman in the cast of Florian Zeller’s “The Father” which is an adaptation of his award-winning stage play. Hopkins plays a highly independent man who, as he ages, refuses all assistance from his daughter Anne (Colman). Yet such help has become essential, following Anne’s decision to move to Paris with her partner. Zeller directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Christopher Hampton. [Source: Variety]
