Awkwafina Gets A Half Hour Comedy Series

The Baccarat Machine
Awkwafina is set to star in SK Global’s gambling drama “The Baccarat Machine” inspired by a Michael Kaplan-penned article in Cigar Aficionado magazine. Andy Bellin is currently writing the script, no director or other cast is attached at present.

The story follows Cheung Yin ‘Kelly’ Sun and her unlikely partnership with poker player Phil Ivey. Sun amassed millions of dollars of winnings by teaming with Ivey and using a technique known as edge-sorting – recognizing the use of playing cards in which the edges on either side are unevenly cut by fractions of an inch. Carrier
Tony, Grammy and Emmy winner Cynthia Erivo will star in and produce the sci-fi thriller “Carrier” for Amblin Partners. Dan Blank will write and direct the film which will see Erivo reprise the role of a truck driver whom she played in the original podcast that inspired the film.

In the film, Erivo plays Raylene who accepts an off-the-books long-haul trucking assignment to cover for her ill father. She soon realizes that her mysterious cargo is a threat to the world and various forces begin targeting her to control or destroy it. [Source: Variety]

Michael B. Jordan is set to join Margot Robbie and Christian Bale in “American Hustle” director David O. Russell’s upcoming untitled film. Plot and character specifics are under wraps. Shooting aims to begin in April. [Source: THR]

Cosmic Sin
Bruce Willis is attached to lead Corey Large and Edward Drake’s sci-if-action feature “Cosmic Sin” which is currently in pre-production. Large and Drake recently wrote Willis-starrer “Breach”.

The story will follow a group of warriors and scientists who must fight to protect and save their race when a hostile alien species with the power to infect and take over human hosts sets its sights on a futuristic human society. [Source: Deadline]
