British Coughing Major Scandal Becomes Series

Matthew Macfadyen (“Succession”), Michael Sheen (“Good Omens”), Sian Clifford (” Fleabag”) and Michael Jibson (“Les Miserables”) are all set to star in the AMC and ITV three-part mini-series “Quiz” about the “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” cheating scandal.

The series will be an adaptation of “Brexit: An Uncivil War” scribe James Graham’s play while Stephen Frears (“A Very English Scandal”) will direct and Left Bank Pictures (“The Crown”) will produce.

The story follows Charles Ingram (Macfadyen), a former British army major, who caused a major scandal in 2001 after being caught cheating his way to winning £1 million on the popular UK edition of the “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” game show with the help of his wife Diana (Clifford) and audience-seated accomplice Tecwen Whittock (Jibson).

The trio initially pulled off the on-screen heist before being caught and standing trial in a scandal dubbed the ‘Coughing Major’. Sheen will play show host Chris Tarrant while Mark Bonnar is producer Paul Smith, Helen McCrory is the lawyer Sonia Woodley QC, and Aisling Bea is ITV Entertainment Commissioner Claudia Rosencrantz.
