If there’s one obvious issue with “The Wolverine” that people might have when watching it is the lack of blood.
Despite Hugh Jackman’s character using his claws to slice and dice a bunch of yakuza heavies throughout the film, there’s no visible severed limbs or arterial spray – even the claws themselves stay clean as a whistle throughout aside from one key scene on a biobed of sorts.
It’s a necessity for the film to obtain the PG-13 rating for exhibition in cinemas. On home video though, the restrictions aren’t so tight. As a result, the film’s director James Mangold tells Digital Spy that a Blu-ray release could fix those issues.
“I’m very happy with the cut, and the studio was very generous in terms of letting me finish the movie as I wanted, but I do think we will have a slightly more violent version… let’s say an unrated, a bloodier version.”
Asked about other additional scenes we might see, Mangold says:
“There’s about ten or 12 minutes of scenes that I’d love people to see, that we’ll produce some kind of longer version of the movie at some point on Blu-ray or whatever. There’s another great scene with Hiro Sanada and a much more elaborate battle with ninjas from the third act that is a pretty huge battle sequence that you’ll see.”
