HBO has officially renewed Armando Iannucci’s sci-fi comedy “Avenue 5” for a second season, the pickup coming after just four episodes have aired.
“Avenue 5” takes place aboard a cruise ship in space and follows the crew and passengers when something goes very wrong during a voyage. Hugh Laurie, Josh Gad, Lenora Crichlow and Zach Woods co-star.
Critics and audiences have been mixed (at best) on the series which sits at just a 64/100 on Metacritic & a 65% on Rotten Tomatoes, while audience scores on both sit even lower in the low-mid 40s.
Live+3 ratings for the first three episodes have the show averaging about 800,000 viewers, but those numbers represent just a fraction of the total audience for HBO which often gets the majority of its viewership via streaming these days. Those larger numbers aren’t presently available.
The news comes as Liev Schrieber, star of the recently cancelled Showtime series “Ray Donovan,” has hinted that his show may have scored a lifeline with him posting on social media last night: “It seems like your voices have been heard. Too soon to say how or when, but with a little luck and your ongoing support, there will be more Ray Donovan.”
