Sony and MGM’s remake of the 1960 classic western “The Magnificent Seven” had its Thursday night previews last night ahead of its general release today with the movie pulling in $1.75 million in those sneak peeks.
This would put it on track to earn in the $30-$40 million range this weekend, an excellent start for a western. Reviews for the film have been decidedly mixed, most saying its clearly well made with good actors wasted in a very routine and by-the-numbers film.
The other opener this week is the animated film “Storks” which also scored mixed reviews and is expected to open with between $20-30 million.
