Disney has given the green light to Lucasfilm Animation’s new television series “Star Wars Rebels” which will launch Fall 2014.
The cartoon will premiere as a one-hour special on Disney Channel before commencing as a TV series on Disney XD, with production already underway.
Set between the prequels and the original trilogy, the story is set in a time “where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.”
Simon Kinberg (“X-Men: First Class,” “Sherlock Holmes”) is executive producing and will write the premiere episode. Dave Filoni (“Star Wars: The Clone Wars”) and Greg Weisman (“Young Justice”) will also executive produce.
