Brazilian filmmaker Kleber Mendonça Filho and actor Wagner Moura, fresh off the success of their Oscar-nominated “The Secret Agent,” are set to re-team.
Speaking at a press conference for Cine Ceará, Filho has revealed that the pair will work together on his next film currently going by the title “Foreign Correspondent”.
He adds that this will be his next feature and he’s already deep into researching it with fourteen books on his reading list.
The story is expected to be a period drama set in 1930s Recife, Brazil and deal with events that led up to World War II – from the 1935 communist uprising to the rise of Getúlio Vargas shortly after.
That has led to obvious comparisons to the Hitchcock classic of the same title which involves a reporter stumbling into a spy plot in Europe on the eve of WWII – this being a potential homage to that.
Filho previously directed acclaimed films such as the Sonia Braga-led “Aquarius” and “Bacurau”.
