Amazon Prime Video has premiered the trailer for “Criminal,” the TV series adaptation of Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips’ multi-Eisner Award-winning graphic novel series.

Charlie Hunnam, Adria Arjona, Luke Evans, Emilia Clarke, Richard Jenkins and Kadeem Hardison co-star in the eight-episode series which is set in the same universe but adapts two of the comic’s most acclaimed chapters.

The first four-episode block is titled “Criminal: Coward” and airs on January 13th, the second titled “Criminal: Lawless” airs two weeks later on January 27th.

The story begins with Leo Patterson (Hunnam), a careful, calculating thief trying to escape the life he inherited, and his childhood friend Ricky Lawless (Gus Halper), who is determined to follow in the footsteps of his notorious father.

Their complicated history takes another turn when Ricky’s older brother Tracy (Evans) returns from the Army, forcing the family to confront a past it has spent years trying to bury.

Arjona plays Greta, a sharp-tongued car thief with ties to Leo’s past. Clarke portrays Mallory, Ricky’s girlfriend, who fears how far he might go to survive.

Richard Jenkins, John Hawkes, Kadeem Hardison, Logan Browning, Michael Mando, Garrett Hedlund, and Patrick J. Adams co-star.

Brubaker co-created the adaptation with crime novelist Jordan Harper with both executive producing alongside Dee Rees, Sarah Carbiener and Phillip Barnett. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (“Half Nelson,” “Captain Marvel”) direct the first four episodes.
