Paramount and Skydance have premiered the inspiring first trailer for the David Corenswet-led “Mr. Irrelevant” which opens on Christmas Day.
“Superman” star Corenswet plays John Tuggle, the running back who was given the ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ moniker after being the last pick of the last round of the 1983 NFL draft.
He became the first player in league history picked last in the draft to make the NFL on the team that drafted him. He died just a few years later from cancer at the age of 25, leaving behind an enduring impact on his team and teammates.
The $35 million sports movie’s test screening scores have been stunning, pulling in perfect 100s from women over 35 and 95’s from men over 35. That success is rumored to have partly led to the film’s director Jonathan Levine landing the coveted “Days of Thunder 2” gig.
Isabel May, Michael Shannon and David Krumholtz co-star in the film which will now open amidst a crazy busy period in which “Avengers: Doomsday,” “Dune: Part Three” and a new “Jumanji” film are all set to battle at the box-office.
Emmy-nominated writer and “Reacher” showrunner Nick Santora penned the script, with both he and Levine producing alongside Gillian Bohrer.
