“Spy” and “Bridesmaids” filmmaker Paul Feig is reportedly in early talks to direct a sequel to the 2003 remake of the 1969 British caper classic “The Italian Job” at Paramount Pictures.
The project is out to writers right now, but no other elements are attached yet – including actors or producers.
F. Gary Gray directed the 2003 version, which starred the likes of Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron and Edward Norton.
The heist film was mostly famous for its big third act sequence in which the robbers escape in Mini Coopers speeding around Los Angeles. The title grossed $176 million worldwide.
How heavily this new take will tie in is not clear, but the trades are reporting it as a sequel and not a reboot or another remake.
Feig is coming off the hit “The Housemaid” which grossed $400 million worldwide for Lionsgate. A sequel was quickly greenlit and is on the way.
