Paramount Pictures has reportedly decided to release the animated feature “Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender” in cinemas after all – but only with a bare minimum footprint.
Variety reports that the title, which was originally scheduled for a theatrical release before being shifted to a direct-to-Paramount+ release, will be getting an awards-qualifying run.
As a result, it will get a very limited cinema release in New York and Los Angeles during the week of its Paramount+ release with three showtimes per day at AMC Burbank 8 in L.A. and the AMC Empire 25 in Manhattan.
Those interested can buy the tickets starting at 9 am US-PT today and are expected to be limited and potentially sell out quick.
One other option is for fans attending San Diego Comic-Con, as they will be able to watch the film one day early at a special screening.
Set after the finale of the original animated series, Avatar Aang is the world’s last Airbender and learns of an ancient power that could save his culture from extinction.
With the help of his friends, he embarks on a global quest to find it before it falls into the wrong hands and threatens to upend the peace they sacrificed everything to achieve.
The voice cast includes Eric Nam as Aang, Dave Bautista as Tagah, Jessica Matten as Katara, Román Zaragoza as Sokka, Steven Yeun as Zuko and Dionne Quan as Toph.
Lauren Montgomery directs, with Steve Ahn and William Mata co-directing. “Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender” premieres on Paramount+ on July 25th.
