After previously teaming on “Battle Angel Alita,” filmmakers James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez are reportedly discussing re-teaming for something different.
Participating in an extensive Empire podcast interview (via The Playlist), Cameron says he and Rodriguez are discussing the possibility of shooting a feature together – one that would be completed incredibly quickly.
In fact, Cameron indicates his work on the recent 3D Billie Eilish concert film, which was filmed over just a few days, has inspired him to do more projects that can be done fast:
“Robert Rodriguez and I are talking about doing something that’s so blindingly fast that, you know, we’re just going to do the whole thing in like 17 days. Because I really like the experience on ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft.’ I shot a whole movie in six days. I’m like, what the f— takes four years?”
Disney has yet to give the green light for a fourth “Avatar” film, which means Cameron currently has free time to shoot something. His name has been linked to several other potential directorial efforts like “Ghosts of Hiroshima,” but those projects would take longer than a little over two weeks.
Rodriguez is currently slated to direct the Michael Peña and Jessica Alba-led action film “Incognito” later this year in Austin, that film following siblings who happen to be covert agents. Cameron isn’t linked to that project at this time.
