Warner Bros. Discovery, Amazon MGM Studios, Sony, Universal and Netflix have all reportedly submitted bids to acquire the film adaptation of Electronic Arts’ “Battlefield” game franchise.
The Wrap indicates it is ramping up to be the biggest bidding war of the year. Christopher McQuarrie is attached to write, direct and produce, while Michael B. Jordan will produce and potentially star in the project.
Electronic Arts publishes the game series which launched in 2002 and deals with multiplayer warfare across land, air, and sea in various time periods from WW2 to the near future.
Last year’s “Battlefield 6” was rumored to be one of the most expensive video games ever created and became the bestselling game of last year (and the franchise).
The franchise has sold tens of millions of copies worldwide, with the most recent game being the 18th title in the series overall. The game series is often compared to “Call of Duty”.
The news comes as Paramount is preparing its own film adaptation of rival “Call of Duty”.
