In September came news that “Stranger Things” actress Millie Bobby Brown was in final negotiations to play Olympic champion gymnast Kerri Strug in Gia Coppola’s new film “Perfect”.
Netflix was in talks to acquire the film, which Ronnie Sandahl was writing and which Brown was to produce alongside Nik Bower and Thomas Benski. Shooting would begin in the Summer.
Strug was a member of the 1996 USA gymnastics team dubbed ‘The Magnificent Seven’ and played a huge role in clinching the gold after performing the vault on a badly injured ankle.
She made her landing perfectly before her ankle gave out which led to her coach having to carry her off the mat.
Then, Coppola left the project, with Cate Shortland coming onboard to direct. Now, Variety reports that the film is no longer happening.
The trade indicates that Brown has exited the project over creative differences with producers. As a result, the project is no longer moving forward at the streamer.
It’s no loss for Brown who has multiple projects in development at Netflix and will be out promoting a third “Enola Holmes” film this Summer. She just finished shooting the rom-com “Just Picture It” for the streamer.
