Golden Globe nominee Kathryn Hahn (“Agatha All Along”) has officially joined the cast of Disney’s live-action remake of 2010’s “Tangled” as the villain Mother Gothel.
Hahn joins the previously reported Teagan Croft in the role of Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider as the third lead. Hahn was first rumoured for the role over a year ago.
Today she was finally confirmed in a video posted on Disney’s official social media channels that shows her in a t-shirt with the Gothel character plastered all over it.
The original film was a modern retelling of the classic Rapunzel fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. Mandy Moore played Rapunzel, a spirited young princess with magical, golden hair who escapes from her isolated tower for the first time to experience the world – embarking on an adventure with a charming thief (Zachary Levi).
She discovers her true identity and faces the dangerous truth about the woman, Mother Gothel (Donna Murphy), who kept her captive. It’s revealed over the film that Gothel is a vain and wicked crone who has retained youth for centuries through the healing properties of a magic flower.
Michael Gracey (“The Greatest Showman”) will direct the project while Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (“I Know What You Did Last Summer”) is penning the script for the film.
Kristin Burr (“Cruella,” “Freakier Friday”) is producing the film, which is reportedly targeting a June production start in the UK.
