Karl Urban Still Keen To Reprise “Dredd” Role

Out promoting his pirate film “The Bluff,” and ahead of a busy few weeks of promotional work with “The Boys” final season and “Mortal Kombat II” launching, Karl Urban is going to be around a lot in the next two months.

During an interview on the The Playlist podcast was asked about the possibility of him reprising his role as Judge Dredd after playing the character in 2012’s “Dredd”.

Though well-reviewed, that Alex Garland-penned film wasn’t a box-office success even as it has built up a cult fanbase in the years since. He says on the podcast:

“I would love to reprise that role in a heartbeat. I really would. I had so much fun making that movie. If I’m not part of it, then I’m all good with it. I just want to see more Dredd stories.”

In July last year came the news that filmmaker and fellow New Zealander Taika Waititi, who worked with Urban on “Thor: Ragnarok,” would be directing a new Judge Dredd feature with Drew Pearce on board to write the script.

The character previously made his screen debut in 1995 on the panned Sylvester Stallone vehicle. The original comics debuted in the 1970s and ran for decades, with a wealth of source material for any filmmaker to choose from.
