Apple TV has cancelled its Kristen Wiig-led Emmy-nominated 1960s Florida-set dramedy series “Palm Royale” after two seasons.
Loosely based on Juliet McDaniel’s novel “Mr. and Mrs. American Pie,” Wiig starred in the series as Maxine Simmons – an outsider striving to attain a place in the high society of Palm Beach, Florida.
She sets her sights on the town’s most exclusive country club, the Palm Royale, in the process learning what she will and won’t do to achieve this.
The show boasted an all-star cast including Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, Leslie Bibb, Amber Chardae Robinson, Mindy Cohn, Julia Duffy, Kaia Gerber along with veterans Bruce Dern and Carol Burnett.
Abe Sylvia (“George & Tammy”) served as showrunner, writer, and executive producer on the series, which racked up eleven Emmy nominations in its first season. Reviews, however, were mixed for the show.
The cancellation comes almost two months after the second season aired its finale in mid-January.
