One of the more exciting film announcements in recent months was the news that a new “The Mummy” film was in the works, with Oscar winners Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz returning.

The film sees Radio Silence‘s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (“Scream VI,” “Ready or Not”) directing from a script by David Coggeshall (“The Family Plan”).

With the directors having begun their press commitments for “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come,” EW spoke with them and asked them what they can tease about the upcoming entry.

They say it’s “really, really beautiful and scary and sweeping” with Bettinelli-Olpin saying it has “all of the heart and the character that you could hope for”.

Gillett adds: “I don’t think Brendan and Rachel are getting involved unless they love that script, and what they read, I think they really liked. And it’s a good script. It’s gonna be fun to make.”

They were then asked if “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor,” which Weisz sat out, would be considered part of canon. Bettinelli-Olpin replied: “Well, Rachel is in this one” and Gillett added: “That should answer the question for you.”

“The Mummy 4” is set for a wide theatrical release on May 19th 2028.
