“Rogue One” may have released ten years ago, but its legacy in the “Star Wars” universe lives on.
The film, which served as a prequel to the events right before the original “Star Wars,” got a prequel of its own with the highly acclaimed “Andor” TV series.
That series wrapped its run last year with Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor seen heading for the Ring of Kafrene, the mining colony and deep-space trading post where “Rogue One” began with Andor meeting his informant Tivik.
Now, Lucasfilm and Marvel Comics are partnering on a series of prequel comics centered around the cast of the film – specifically five one-shot issues with each focusing on a different character – one about Cassian Andor (Luna), one about Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), one about Saw Gerrera (Forest Whittaker), and one about Chirrut Imwe (Donnie Yen) and Baze Mabius (Jiang Wen).
A fifth one about Darth Vader – showing what was up to before meeting Director Krennic on Mustafar and appearing in battle at Scarif – is also being produced and deals with Vader handling a kyber crystal mining dispute. Each comic will also feature a cover by beloved Star Wars artist David Marquez.
The Cassian Andor one will be an espionage thriller dealing with events between “Andor” and “Rogue One” as Cassian arrives in the lawless maze of Kafrene. IT goes on sale first on May 3rd with subsequent issues following each month.
