With both the Winter Olympics and Super Bowl this weekend, cinemas are looking dead quiet despite a number of new (albeit small) titles hitting the market.
Sam Raimi’s “Send Help” will stay on top with the title taking $3 million today and eyeing a further $10 million this weekend, a drop of 48% which is quite good for a horror feature. The title’s total by the end of the weekend should be around $35.8 million.
Coming in second will be the new Kevin James rom-com “Solo Mio” which took in $3.1. million today and is aiming for a solid $7.6 million opening weekend for distributor Angel Studios.
K-Pop concert movie “Stray Kids: The dominATE Experience” is expected to land in third following a $3.2 million Friday ahead of a $5 million weekend. Fourth will be Luc Besson’s “Dracula” which made $2.3 million today ahead of a $4.8 million opening.
Down in fifth is Markiplier’s “Iron Lung,” the indie horror title plummeting 74% in its second weekend with a $1.5 million Friday and a likely $4.7 million second weekend. By the end of Sunday, its total will be at $29.5 million domestically – superb numbers for a sub-$3 million feature.
“The Strangers – Chapter 3” will debut in sixth following $1.7 million on Friday and a likely $3.7 million opening weekend. In seventh will be “Melania,” a doco which will drop 51% to a $3.5 million second weekend haul.
