Disney had very big expectations for “Zootopia 2” going into the holiday weekend, and those expectations have not only been matched but exceeded.
Domestically, the five-day forecast has been raised again, surging upwards to $155 million, with some suggesting it could hit $160 million. The three-day haul from Friday-Sunday is on track for around $98-99 million.
The original “Zootopia” took twelve days to hit $154 million – this is doing that in less than half the time. The worldwide haul, which was projected to be as high as $500 million by the end of Sunday, is now headed for a total closer to somewhere over $525 million.
The big driver here is China, where the movie pulled in $104 million on Saturday, the biggest single-day haul for a Hollywood film ever, overtaking “Avengers: Endgame”.
Back on the domestic front, “Wicked: For Good” is at $63.3 million for the three-day and $93.5 million for the five-day, its second weekend drop a respectiable 57%.
In limited release, Netflix’s “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” is reportedly tracking for a five-day haul of $4 million from just 600 screens while “Hamnet” is set to take in $1.3 million from 119 screens.
