Two sequels rumoured to be in the works have basically just been confirmed by their directors.
First up, “Sinners” filmmaker Ryan Coogler appeared at a Deadline Contenders event this weekend and participated in a Q&A session where he confirmed that a third “Black Panther” will be his “next movie”.
He adds that “we’re working on it hard” but couldn’t say anything more as Marvel keeps things top secret. Coogler’s immediate next project is expected to be his TV series reboot of “The X-Files”.
Meanwhile, director Ruben Fleischer has confirmed that work is already underway on a fourth “Now You See Me” movie.
Speaking with Variety to promote the third film, which opened yesterday, he says things are far enough along that they’re aiming to shoot the project as early as next year:
“When we were done shooting [the third one], they started to talk about it [a fourth]. I guess they’d seen a lot of the dailies and were feeling good about it and had the confidence to move forward. We’re working on the script now, and hopefully that’ll be ready so we can make it next year.”
The third film has opened above projections with the title expected to pull in $21-24 million this weekend.
