“A House of Dynamite” Has A Solid Launch

Netflix

Kathryn Bigelow’s impending nuclear war-themed “A House of Dynamite” pulled in major viewership for its first weekend on Netflix.

The thriller snagged 22.1 million views in its first three days on the streamer, making it the most-watched movie for the week of October 20th, and beating out the full seven-day week run of “The Perfect Neighbour”, which snagged 20.2 million views.

The film depicts the immediate response within the U.S. government to the deployment of a single unattributed nuclear missile, with the perspective shifting primarily between three different groups at different levels of power.

The film drew criticism from the Pentagon for its inaccuracies regarding the U.S. anti-missile defense systems, while the film’s ending has drawn quite a bit of discussion from people either happy or angry with the choice Bigelow made.

This can be seen in reviews scores with critics scores quite good, and audience scores decidedly mixed with Metacritic showing a real range of scores.

On the TV side, “Nobody Wants This” debuted on top with 8.6 million views followed by the second week of “The Diplomat” with 6.3 million, “Boots” with 5.6 million, and “Monster: The Ed Gein Story” with 5.1 million.
