Nancy Meyers $100M Rom-Com A Go At WB?

Sony Pictures

Back in March 2023 came word of a new romantic comedy feature from celebrated “The Holiday,” “What Women Want,” and “Something’s Gotta Give” filmmaker Nancy Meyers.

That project, her first feature since 2015’s “The Intern,” was going by the working title of “Paris Paramount” with the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Penelope Cruz, Owen Wilson and Michael Fassbender attached, with shooting to get underway in Summer 2023.

The story centers on a talented young writer-director who falls in love with a producer. The pair made several successful films before calling it quits romantically and professionally. The two are forced back together when a great new project arises, and find themselves having to deal with high stakes and volatile stars.

The film hit a snag, all related to the budget. Set up at Netflix, the streamer balked at the cost – Meyers wanted at least $150 million, but Netflix didn’t want to go over $130 million. Both budgetary figures are extraordinarily high amounts for a rom-com feature.

So, Netflix scrapped it. Within a week or so, Warner Bros. Pictures was said to be circling the project, but nothing seemed to come of it – then the strikes happened and any shooting was off the table for a while.

Two-and-a-half years on, it seems the project is coming back to life. World of Reel reports that Warner Bros. has reportedly agreed to finance the film, with production aiming to get underway in early 2026 in Los Angeles.

The outlet indicates the budget has been significantly slashed, but it will still come in at a very costly $100 million, with much of that expected to go towards major talent for the lead roles. Meyers is reportedly quietly recasting some of the roles now in order to get filming underway in time.
