“Shameless,” “Gotham,” and “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order” actor Cameron Monaghan is set to lead the cast of “Bosch: Start of Watch,” a prequel series in the works at Amazon Studios and Fabrik Entertainment.
The show will serve as a prequel to 2014’s “Bosch,” which starred Titus Welliver as Los Angeles detective Hieronymus ‘Harry’ Bosch. Monaghan will play a younger version of the character and star alongside “Power” actor Omari Hardwick as his training officer, Eli Bridges.
The series is set in 1991 Los Angeles, a year before the riots. It follows 26-year-old Harry Bosch (Monaghan) during his earliest days as a rookie cop. The city is on edge, teeming with racial tension, gang violence, and a fractured LAPD.
Amid routine calls and growing unrest, Bosch finds himself drawn into a high-profile heist and a web of criminal corruption that will test his loyalty to the badge and shape his future as a detective.
The original “Bosch,” based on the books by Michael Connelly, remains one of Amazon’s most successful titles. It ran for seven seasons before spinning off as “Bosch: Legacy” for three seasons. Earlier this year, the Maggie Q-led second spin-off “Ballard,” aired, with that series recently renewed for a second season.
There’s no direct source material for ‘Start of Watch’, but bits and pieces from Harry’s early years are planted in various books and will be utilised here.
The series is co-created and executive produced by Tom Bernardo, who will serve as showrunner, and Brian Anthony. Connelly, Henrik Bastin, Jamie Boscardin Martin, and Jasmine Russ also serve as executive producers.
