The premiere of the DC Studios series “Lanterns” has racked up 9.3 million views in its first three days of availability across HBO and HBO Max.

According to Variety, that’s the biggest premiere for a DC Studios show on HBO Max to date, along with being one of the top five premieres on the platform overall. Of that 9.3 million, 6.6 million were in the United States.

To put that in comparison with other recent HBO series – “IT: Welcome to Derry” landed 5.7 million U.S. viewers in its first three days last year, while DC title “The Penguin” took in 5.3 million U.S. viewers in its first four days.

The numbers come as Gunn has assured fans on Threads that the series will clarify why multiple ring-bearers are active on Earth.

Aaron Pierre, Kyle Chandler, Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Jason Ritter, Ulrich Thomsen and Laura Linney star in the series.

The show follows new recruit John Stewart (Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.

The eight-episode season is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King and runs through until early October.
