Microsoft has denied claims that US retailers, including Target and Walmart, have started removing Xbox products from their shelves.
Over the weekend, several users reported that their local Target store was no longer selling Xbox games with others chiming in alleging the same was happening at their Target and Walmart.
Subsequent calls to other Target and Walmart by former IGN editor Destin Legarie indicated that they haven’t heard anything about clearing inventory or discontinuation. The only confirmed removal is that of Costco no longer carrying Xbox consoles.
Now Microsoft has posted a statement to Windows Central, denying the claims and stating that Target and Walmart are continuing to sell Xbox products:
“Target and Walmart, among other retailers, remain committed partners for Xbox consoles, accessories, and games.”
So what is going on? It’s suggested the most plausible explanation is that retailers are allocating less space to physical game media in general as more players shift to digital purchases with some stores reducing their Xbox shelves as opposed to straight out discontinuing sales.
