Last month, news came that Costco, one of the largest retailers in the world, said that it would no longer be selling Xbox consoles.
Now, others appear to be following. According to TheGamer.com, a Reddit thread has popped up this weekend from users claiming to work at Target and Walmart where both stores have reportedly begun removing their stock of games, accessories and consoles.
One user, attaching photo evidence, says according to the electronics manager at the local Target, “all Targets in the Kansas City area are purging Xbox stock as well”.
Several others chimed in to confirm, with one saying a Walmart where they work is getting rid of Xbox games amid a remodel of that section of the store. Once the remodel is done, there will be no Xbox games, and Switch and PlayStation will be condensed to one lock case each.
Subsequent check of stock online in the Kansas City area by the outlet has found very limited stock – only one Series S available, as well as a handful of controllers, and “limited stock” on several games. In fact, they found more PlayStation Portals in stock than Xbox consoles.
As one user explained on the thread, Xbox allegedly stopped paying for display space in stores a while back, which makes such a removal inevitable – the company moving to online and digital sales.
Walmart and Target have not made an announcement about changes to Xbox availability.
