The first season of Marvel Studios’ “X-Men ’97” animated series released to much acclaim early last year along with some controversy revolving around the abrupt exit of showrunner Beau DeMayo.
Production on the series continued however with a second and third season in the works, the aim being for annual releases of the new seasons starting with the second in 2026.
Now, appearing at FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention this week, actor Ross Marquand was asked if he could tease anything about the new season and his role in it.
He revealed (via Collider) that you can expect the tone to be notably darker than the previous run, describing it as “very dark” before saying:
“I play Apocalypse next season too, so there’s a lot of scenes for myself as Apocalypse. I’m dressed in rags, which is kind of weird, but yeah. [I’m] amazed Disney greenlit it because it’s so dark. It’s very, very dark. A lot of people die, and so many people don’t talk about it. Just being honest.”
He’ll join returning stars like Lenore Zann, George Buza, and Cal Dodd coming back to play Rogue, Beast, and Wolverine, along with Holly Chou and Ray Chase voicing Jubilee and Cyclops.
