“Hollow Knight: Silksong” Crashes Game Stores

The release of the highly anticipated metroidvania sequel “Hollow Knight: Silksong” proved too much for even the biggest digital retailers in gaming to handle.

After years of anticipation, developer Team Cherry’s title release on Thursday with demand so high it caused technical issues across virtually all major storefronts including Steam, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch.

Shortly after the title went live, users reported being unable to access the game’s page on Steam, or purchase the title for any of the console. On Nintendo Switch systems, Nintendo was reportedly forced to take the eShop store offline for maintenance.

At its peak, 535,213 gamers played the game on launch day, a number was
achieved within the first hour of the game’s launch.

The original “Hollow Knight” has sold over 15 million copies since its release eight years ago. The sequel has been in the works for six years, but a release was only slated for it just two weeks ago after a lenghty period with no updates.
