Fletcher To Direct “League of Gentlemen” Remake

Actor turned filmmaker Dexter Fletcher (“Eddie the Eagle,” “Ghosted,” “Rocketman”) is reportedly attached to direct a reimagining of the 1960 British heist movie “The League of Gentlemen” at Paramount Pictures.

Jack Hawkins, Nigel Patrick, Roger Livesey and Richard Attenborough starred in the original film which was based on the 1958 novel by John Boland. It followed former officers of the British Army who plan a bank robbery in the City of London.

They raid an army training camp in Dorset to get the weapons they need, and then frame the Irish Republican Army (IRA) for the raid. The film was re-released on home video by Criterion in 2010 as part of the ‘Basil Dearden’s London Underground’ boxset.

Bek Smith (“Moana 2”) has penned the script for the new take on the story which is expected to be set in the modern day.

Fletcher has reportedly been involved in the project since early 2024, but his role has only now been revealed. The film was in development at Skydance but has moved to Paramount post-merger.

Dalia IbelhauptaitÄ—, Michael Attenborough and Emma Forbes executive produce. The project isn’t to be confused with the acclaimed 1999 BBC2 comedy series of the same name.
