The Labor Day holiday weekend is upon us, and with it comes multiple titles debuting without really attracting large audiences. In fact, the overall four-day weekend looks like it’ll come in at $84.2 million overall – down 24% from a year ago.
“Weapons” is set to take back the top spot with $10.2 million for three days and $12 million for the four-day period, bringing its total up to $134 million thus far.
The IMAX re-release of “Jaws” is proving a big fish in the sea, the Spielberg classic set to take second place with $8 million for the three-day and $9.7 million for the four-day.
It’ll be in tight competition with Darren Aronofsky’s crime caper film “Caught Stealing” starring Austin Butler. That title, which landed a so-so B CinemaScore, is at $7.8 million for the three-day and $9.5 million for the four-day in third place.
“Freakier Friday” will come in fourth with $6.7 million/$8.7 million (3-day/4-day), while rounding out the top five is the Cumberbatch/Colman-led dark comedy “Roses” with $6 million/$7.35 million (3-day/4-day). The latter landed a B+ score.
Cineverse’s “Toxic Avenger” debuts in tenth with a $1.5 million/$2.2 million split. Also of note is last week’s two limited releases – “Honey Don’t” and “Relay” – have both plummeted in their second weekends by 67% and 80% respectively.
