Sony To Raise PS5 Console Prices By $50

Sony has announced that they are increasing the U.S. price of all its PlayStation 5 models by $50 each starting tomorrow (August 21st).

As a result, the consoles will now cost $549.99 for the regular PS5, $499.99 for the regular PS5 digital edition, and $749.99 for the PS5 Pro. Recommended retail prices for PlayStation 5 accessories remain unchanged.

The company has reportedly cited the “challenging economic environment,” including Trump’s tariffs, as being responsible for this. It appears to only impact the U.S. at this time.

Yet many are calling that bull as the news comes just over a week after Sony themselves announced that their PlayStation division landed record Q1 revenue of $6.47 billion – driven by strong third-party game sales and PlayStation Plus subscription signups.

In fact, FY2025 profit for the company is forecast to be $3.5 billion – the best Q1 earnings that the company has ever seen.

It also comes as everyone else is getting in on the act. Back in May, Microsoft raised console prices by $80 for the Series S and $100 for the Series X, as well as increasing accessory prices.

Nintendo, meanwhile, raised the cost of accessories for the Switch 2 ahead of its launch, and earlier this month raised the price of the original Switch due to the impact of tariffs.
