Warner Bros. Discovery sent out a letter to shareholders this morning in which the company offered a number of updates on future projects along with laying out overall plans for their film slate in the years to come.
First up, they confirm Matt Reeves’ “The Batman Part II” will finally begin filming next year, with shooting to get underway in the Spring. The film remains very much on track for an October 1st 2027 release.
Next, WBD CEO David Zaslav confirms “James Gunn is already preparing to write the next instalment in the Super family” while also indicating Gunn is dealing with other DC titles presently, including the already shot “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” the soon to shoot “Clayface”, and the in-development next “Wonder Woman”.
The letter also teased TV projects like the “new season of Peacemaker, and the debut of Lanterns in 2026.”
The plan is for Warner Bros. to release 12-14 theatrical release films per year which will consist of:, 1–2 Warner Bros. major releases (eg. “Godzilla vs. Kong”), 1–2 DC Studios titles, 1–2 animated movies, 1–2 modestly budgeted original projects and 3–4 New Line films (including horror).
Warner Bros. has been on a streak of late, distributing five films in a row that opened to over $45 million domestically. The company expects $2.4 billion in total Studios profit for 2025.
The company also says it will make “aggressive” strides, starting next month, on password crackdown measures involving their HBO Max streaming service.
