“Superman” Targets $200M+ Global Start

Box-office tracking figures for James Gunn’s “Superman” appear to be on the rise.

The film is reportedly on track for a domestic opening of over $100 million says the studio, with third-party tracking services putting the number closer to $115-130 million.

The film is also opening in 78 markets overseas where it is likewise expected to nab an opening of over $100 million – bringing its worldwide opening weekend to a minimum of $200 million, likely over.

The film first appeared on tracking service NRG three weeks ago with a figure of $135 million – a number that quickly dropped to $130 million but has remained steady since.

With reviews singing the film’s praises now floating around, it’s expected to only boost the film’s fortunes. Domestic pre-sales stand at $20 million – ahead of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” which opened to $118.4 million.

The film will top the chart, pushing “Jurassic World Rebirth” down to second place in its second weekend with a 55% drop expected and a domestic second weekend haul of $60 million.

The first of the sold-out Amazon Prime member paid screenings of “Superman” kick off at 7pm tonight.
