Christopher Nolan’s film adaptation of Homer’s “The Odyssey” is still going with production currently underway in Iceland.
A new report in a local news outlet MBL (via WOR) indicates around 1,000 extras have been enlisted to join the production with a big chunk of that, 450 of them, being Icelandic extras.
Filming will run for twelve days in Iceland in what’s described as the largest shoot in the country since “Flags of our Fathers” in 2005.
Some filming has taken place at Landeyjahöfn where the public has been able to see part of the set which includes what appears to be Odysseus’ ship.
Stunt coordinator James Newman recently said: “They’re never going to make a movie like this again. It’s the epic of all epics. The locations are insane — all over Europe — because Odysseus’ journey spans ten years. It’s wild.”
Matt Damon has arrived in the country, and while it has not been confirmed who else will be coming here, both Elliot Page and Zendaya are said to be amongst those who will get involved in the Iceland leg of the shoot.
Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Mia Goth, Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron co-star in the $250 million budget film which has already been filming scenes in Greece, Italy, Morocco, Scotland and Los Angeles with stints in Ireland and London still to come.
As for when we’ll actually get to see any of it, there’s rumor a very early teaser may hit next month with “Jurassic World: Rebirth” but that’s optimistic. More likely our first good look won’t arrive until year’s end. The film itself opens July 17th 2026.
