Reviews for the “John Wick” spin-off “Ballerina” were pretty good, and audiences seemed to like it with an A- CinemaScore handed out. That hasn’t translated to coin though.
The title is set to come in second at the domestic box-office in its opening weekend, pulling in around $25-27 million – decidedly less than projections which had it pegged in the $35 million range.
The film is budgeted at $90 million, but foreign sales cover a bunch of that cost. The film is said to be overwhelmingly playing to male audiences so far.
Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch” will retain the crown for a third consecutive weekend with $33 million more. By end of Sunday it should be at an estimated $336 million domestically and over $650 million worldwide.
“Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning” is coming in third with a further $15 million. It sits at a gross of $145.9 million domestically and well over $400 million globally.
Last week’s softly debuting “Karate Kid: Legends” is falling 57% in its second weekend to an $8.7 million haul and a total of $35.4 million after ten days.
Also this week was the nationwide expansion of Wes Anderson’s “The Phoenician Scheme” which is projecting a $5.7 million weekend and $6.5 million total by end of Sunday.
