More Filming Set For Michael Jackson Biopic

Lionsgate

Following the news that Lionsgate has pushed back its Michael Jackson’s biopic “Michael” into sometime next year, multiple sources have confirmed to THR that significant reshoots are set to take place next month.

The project will reportedly undergo a sizeable 22 days of additional photography in June. The additional filming comes as the Jackson Estate, producer Graham King, Lionsgate and Universal are trying to figure out how to move forward with the project due to its size and a potential legal issue.

Though not confirmed yet, it’s widely expected that the movie will be split into two parts as Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer indicted the film currently clocks in at somewhere around the three-and-a-half hour range.

The trade indicates a script for a potential second film still needs to be finalized, and the June shoot would be for what would constitute the first film.

Thus the reshooting would be not so much about redoing scenes as splitting a supersized film into two and then filming additional material to that first one to allow it work as its own feature.

Their sources say the first film will now end with Jackson leaving the Jackson 5 after the release of his first solo album “Off the Wall”.
